Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a ground-breaking, scientific approach to therapy. It combines and integrates well-researched and successful approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Positive Psychology, Gestalt, Evolutionary Psychology and Hypnotherapy.

According to a study published in March 2019 in the Journal Scientific Reports, researchers in Australia were able to predict basic choices participants made 11 seconds before they consciously declared their decisions.

Our choices are made out of beliefs that were formed in early childhood and our unconscious drives our behaviours according to these beliefs and associations.

According to the Cognitive Hypnotherapy approach, when you behave in a way that you don’t want you are already in a trance. And because this happens every day, we consider trance as natural state that everyone experiences without even being aware of it.

If the unconscious drives 90% of our behaviour, then the notion that we are in control is an illusion and the reality is that the unconscious mind is the one running the show.

Instead of hypnotising the individual, we use Cognitive Hypnotherapy to actually de-hypnotise the person from a state that no longer serves them, which is what we normally call “problem”.

So here is the difference. While traditional hypnotherapy presents hypnosis as a state where the hypnotherapist must “put you under”, Cognitive Hypnotherapy understands hypnosis to be a natural state that we go to whenever our mind drifts or when we are in a relaxed state.

Cognitive Hypnosis is not a special state where someone else, in this case the therapist, will have control over you. It’s simply a more relaxed state, when your brain produces alpha waves and you are less likely to resist the information received.

For this reason, there is no such a thing as a person who can’t be hypnotised. Everyone’s brain is capable of producing alpha and theta waves which are the frequencies that we need in order for the unconscious accept the suggestions given by the therapist.
